English/ESL and TOEFL - Fast, Fun and Effective

I teach languages for world peace. As a former journalist with a degree from Pt. Loma Nazarene College in San Diego, and having left San Diego on a scholarship to the Goethe Institute in Berlin, I know what it's like to struggle to learn a language, but I also know where the hyphen goes and why, and have over 20 years experience teaching English. My goal is to teach students with the idea that they will be set free, working and remembering their English skills on their own. I am very good ... [more]

Vocabulary

Vocabulary in imperative for business people, college students; and IELTS and TOEFL students. With over 20 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language, I have taught many adults, business people, college-bound and college students to be successful using English. After graduating Pt. Loma Nazarene College with a degree in Literature-writing/journalism concentration (for which I reported for a weekly newspaper and a bureau covering county and federal courts, I was awarded a full scholarship from Germany to study at the Goethe-Institute Berlin. I continued to study at university in Germany, worked as a journalist and opened my tutoring center to teach English to corporations, CEOs and individuals. When I returned to the US, I continued to work as as a freelance and hired journalist for newspapers but found my calling in teaching English. As life takes us, I became a director of an ESL school and then became the director of my own fully accredited ESL school. I have since sold the ESL school to return to tutoring and consultation of language training full time. I love what I do for people: helping them live, work, get good grades and play in a different language. For fun, I write plays, screenplays, poems and short stories. For my life, I teach languages for world peace.

Grammar

A werewolf novel was once dedicated to me as, "a member in good standing of the grammar police." When proofreading or helping you with grammar for any reason, I have easy ways for you to remember why the edit needed to happen, so that you can do it on your own next time.

Reading

I have helped hundreds of students learn how to read English, a Creole language that is Anglo-Saxon and French. I give you little tricks and rules and then show you why they are broken almost immediately: there are rules in English, but because of its origins, they take on different forms. Two of my favorite things to teach is the "relative clause," and how we eliminate the first part of the clause that might contain "that is." For instance, We have a new TV. It is in the corner. We have a new TV (that is) in the corner. I'm very good at teaching reading.

With over 20 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language, I have taught many adults, business people, college-bound and college students to be successful using English. For my life, I teach languages for world peace.

ESL/ESOL

I have over 20 years experience teaching English as a second language to adults, business people and children. I am a graduate of Pt. Loma Nazarene College Literature-Journalism Concentration. I was a full scholar to the Goethe-Institute Berlin and a journalist. I am currently a playwright, poet and writer.

Literature

My bachelor's degree is in literature-journalism/writing concentration from Point Loma Nazarene College, noted for being rated #25 of all US colleges and universities whose graduates go on to get Ph.Ds a very good, private school. One of the most shocking days was when a small class of 10 students just read an e.e. cummings poem, and the instructor just looked out the window for a good ten minutes.

Proofreading

As a journalist, I have learned how to proofread in a very fast way that is geared to find common errors in English: There, They're, or Their. Native speakers mix these up all the time, because our brains find the first one and write it. I can help you overcome these errors as well as non-native common errors. I want to help you in your career/work and your social and publishing life.

TOEFL

I have over 20 years experience teaching English as a second language to adults, business people and children. Every student of mine who has applied to the college of his/her choice has been accepted on the first attempt with a good TOEFL score. I am currently a teacher, playwright, poet and writer.

Theater

I studied under the direction of Kim M. and Jim B. of the Bowery Theatre in San Diego. Kim M. performed three plays of Mark M. and was swept away to work with Mark, who received an Obie Award for "When You Comin' Back, Red Ryder?" and both Tony and Olivier awards for "Children of a Lessor God." B.'s professionalism around the world includes being the only production company to have fixed David Bowie's "Spider" stage. Over a period of eight years, I worked for these awesome interpreters of the stage. I have since worked and studied with some of the best writers and directors, theatres and stages in San Diego. My first three plays were all produced as chosen by their directors and theatres in San Diego. I have since directed at the Vaudeville Theatre and Candy Store.

IELTS

I have prepared several students for the IELTS, and they have passed.
