I love making Chemistry and Organic Chemistry come to life for students. I most recently served as an Advanced Placement Chemistry Teacher in the Philadelphia School District for 5 years. Prior to that I was a successful business owner in Chemical Recycling and Contracting, and a Pharmaceutical Researcher in Organic Process Chemistry for Glaxo SmithKline and Sanofi Aventis. I have several publications in Organic Chemistry Research as well as my master's thesis which was also published. I ... [more]
I have taught Algebra 1 in the Philadelphia School District for two years. I have also had to teach it to my ninth and eleventh grade Students to survive my physical chemistry and Chemistry courses as it is essential to solving scientific word problems. I use algebra through calculus in my career on a daily basis.
I was an AP Chemistry Teacher in the Philadelphia School District for three years. I taught Chemistry for 5 years in the Philadelphia School District and served briefly as Science Department chair at Overbrook High School, before leaving to teach AP Chemistry at South Philadelphia High School. I have tutored nearly thirty Students in High school and College Chemistry Courses. I also served as a teaching Assistant at Temple University, while still an undergrad and as a teaching assistant for General Chemistry at Lehigh University in Graduate School.
I taught Physical Science courses at two High Schools for over three years and was certified by the state of PA to teach it. I have tutored Physical Science to 12 students outside of my school district. I have taken a full year of Physics, a year of physical chemistry and Physical Organic Chemistry and have a masters degree in Chemistry. These two courses make up the bulk of all Physical Science curricula.
I have used Macintosh computers since 1985 and have been a master of using them. My teaching duties at my chemistry teaching position included duties for managing the classroom for the future program for the entire school, and this meant training staff to use Macbooks and training them to use MS office and Mac and 3rd party software. I own two Macbook pros, one Macbook air, an iMac, iPhone, 3 iPods, an iPad mini and an iPad mini. I also utilize a time capsule for all backups. I have beta tested apps for ios and have volunteered to teach Macintosh at my daughter's middle school.
I have a superior knowledge in Organic Chemistry having served as a Teaching assistant in Graduate School, teaching labs, recitations, making exams and grading exams. I have over 8 publications and presentations in the field of Organic Chemistry from Graduate School and work as a Process Organic Chemist in the Pharmaceutical industry. I have tutored approximately 50 students since my undergraduate studies, and know how to make the more difficult topics, simple and easy to digest. My experience as an AP Chemistry Teacher in the Philadelphia School District has taught me tactics to teach the most ill prepared students, who lack requisite knowledge so reteaching topics within a subject is now a specialty.
