My love for teaching started in 1979 when I was hired by a local music store to teach private guitar lessons. As a music teacher, I stress the importance of ear training. As a student, I have had over three decades of training in this field. My teaching approach with the guitar is to understand the relationship between notes and then use practical application by teaching exercises with intervals and triads. Once those skills are sound, I move on to four-note harmony and chord scales. I always suggest listening to instruments other than the guitar to improve aural skills.
I have 34 years of experience in the music business. My education has been a combination of private study with the Jazz guitar professor at Wichita State University, personal studies, and performance experience. I have taught private and group guitar lessons for three local music stores over the past 34 years. Senseney Music Inc. recruited me to coach rock band camp and beginning guitar camps for two years. My professional performance experiences include weddings, private events, local venues, and recording sessions. My passion for worship ministry has kept my focus in being involved in multiple worship bands in local churches.
I have been a long time member of Health Strategies and the YMCA. I have studied Tang Soo Do karate with my brother who is a master in Tang Soo Do and Hapkido. I am currently learning advanced self defense and mixed martial arts. I exercise 5-6 days weekly doing circuit training in my home. I am studying anatomy and kinetics in preparation for personal fitness training certification from the National Council on Exercise. I would like to help individuals or groups learn to improve their fitness with minimal time commitment and with no budget for a gym membership.
