Math, especially in elementary and middle school years, can be one of the most dreaded subjects for young learners. I am skilled in not only helping students succeed in the classroom, but developed better confidence with math, including Algebra 1.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have an Education minor from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. I have taken classes on teaching pedagogy, students with special needs, and have also independently taught a 10-week long class for homeschooled students. Additionally, I have experience teaching social studies, reading, English, and music to elementary age students in Burrell School District and Greensburg Diocese schools. My experience entails lesson planning, crafting graphic organizers, study guides, and posters, as well as evaluating student feedback and actual instruction of children K-6.

Phonics

Phonics is a subject I have experience in from teaching experience as well as informal babysitting homework help. With my educational background, I am able to utilize many popular and effective strategies that is compatible with the strategies your child is learning in school today. I focus on helping the students build from simple word sounds and letter combinations to syllabic breakdown and patterns that can be put together to form words the student can add to their mastered reading list! My phonics tutoring is game-based so as to keep the student's attention and build confidence.

Piano

I specialize in teaching beginner piano players who have little or no experience as a musician or reading music. Students will be exposed to music theory as well as finger placement and music reading skills, so that they can apply the technique and rules to any level of song or piece.

Study Skills

I have experience coaching students of varying ages how to become organized and responsible with their homework, assignments, and study materials, as well as tutoring these students for a particular exam or improving their grade in a specific course. I specialize in tutoring students on note-taking, critical reading, and test-taking strategies.

College Counseling

I have worked with junior and senior high school students in preparation for the SATs, particularly the writing and verbal sections. I have also worked for four years at Saint Vincent College's Admissions department as co-director of training and Admission Ambassador to the college. I specialize in writing admission essays, resumes, mock college interviews, and other skills and items to include in a student's portfolio. Currently, I work at Binghamton University as a Teaching Assistant in the History Dept and help students with essay writing, critical thinking skills, and developing skills transferrable to the workplace.

Praxis

I am an experienced tutor in Praxis I preparation. I typically assess a student's competence in the reading, writing, and math section, then personalize my approach according to their readiness level for the exam. Once students have a test date scheduled, I draft a manageable study plan that has them focus on "chunks" of reading, math, writing, or vocabulary building. I have taken preparation courses for the Praxis I, and have also then mentored other students at a College preparing for the exam. In addition to coaching students on navigating the types of problems typical of the Praxis I exam, I help them to improve their overall writing skills and reading comprehension with simulated whole practice tests and essay completion.

Social Studies

I have a degree in Political Science and History from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. I worked as a tutor for the History department for the 2012-2013 academic year. Additionally, I have field experience as a social studies teacher in public schools in PA.
