I have a doctorate in Education. My studies included a deep understanding of how students of all ages learn best. I have also taught various subjects for Mathnasium, Club Z, and Sylvan, in which we focused on K-6 students. I currently teach 5 and 6-year-olds part time for Waterstone.
Guitar
I have been playing the guitar and performing for audiences for 50 years. I have tutored novice guitar players once in a while for over 30 years. I have excellent pitch and I come from a family of musicians.
Study Skills
As a teacher for 25 years, it has been very important for my students to know and understand study skills. As a PhD, I have had to develop study skills for myself to maximize my learning. I would be glad to tutor anyone to improve their study skills.
Theater
Having acted and directed in a number of plays, I have a heart for theatre and would love to share this with others. Each one of us is gifted with unique skills; the challenge of a theatre tutor is to help the student identify and develop the unique gifts that they can bring to a performance. I have taught children's theater for the past three years.
Discrete Math
I am well versed in sets, functions and relations, matrix algebra, probability, graph theory, logic, mathematical induction, and algorithmic thinking. I am also familiar with Boolean algebra, linear programming, and number theory. I think of discrete mathematics simply as the mathematics that is necessary for decision making in non-continuous situations. I have taught math for 25 years including teaching college Finite Math. I have a master's degree in Operations Research.
