I am a bay area graduate (UC Berkeley) who has loved the learning process all my life. I have used my math and science skills throughout my engineering career, and enjoy engaging others in the learning process. Seeing a student smile as they begin to understand a difficult topic is very rewarding. I specialize in tutoring chemistry, math, and physics to help students achieve success in school, and on the various standardized tests. My goal is not only to help the student learn, but create ... I have taught algebra 1 to several students who were being home schooled. In addition to teaching, I administered tests to these students, and wrote evaluations for each student. The evaluations followed the common core guidelines.
I am a UC Berkeley graduate with a BS degree in Chemistry. I have a masters degree in inorganic chemistry from Northwestern University. I have continued to use math, and chemistry in my engineering career building scientific instruments for chemistry research (NMR probes). I also enjoy mathematical puzzles and games.
I have worked with students taking honors physics, AP physics, and college physics. I used the principles of physics extensively while I was working as a hardware engineer. Now, as a tutor, I am able to relate real world situations to the material being learned.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
I am currently working with three students who have moderate/severe autism. These students point to letters/symbols on a board to communicate with a communication partner. I am also working with one student to become the communication partner, currently using air prompts in combination with the communication board.
I have used logic throughout my scientific career as a hardware engineer. I also took a professional course on digital logic/electronics. The knowledge gained in this course has been very helpful to me working in the scientific instruments field.
I am a chemistry graduate from UC Berkeley. My studies included an advanced organic course and an advanced organic laboratory course in addition to the normal organic chemistry class. I also have a masters degree in inorganic chemistry from Northwestern university. I have continued to use organic chemistry in my career building NMR probes which are usually used on organic molecules.
I have taught pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry to students being home schooled. We followed curricula based on the common core standards. I also wrote evaluations for these students that reference the common core goals for each course.
I have played bridge since I was ten years old. For the last thirty years I have played regularly in tournaments up to and including the national level. I enjoy the challenge of communicating with a very restricted language in either the bidding or the play.
