Patient, Experienced, and Skilled Special Needs and General Education

I am a certified teacher with 20 years experience teaching preschool students through adults. My experience includes work in both special education and general education settings. I have taught reading, writing, and spelling skills at the elementary school level. I have also taught English at the high school level. I have studied English grammar, reading, and writing skills and how to teach these skills at the college level and through coursework at Dyslexia Resource Center of Michigan.


I have worked as a reading specialist for struggling readers at the elementary school level and have helped high school students to further develop their reading skills. I have taught Literature classes at the high school level and have helped students increase their comprehension skills. I have tutored preschool students through adults in the area of reading. I have also studied the Orton Gillingham method of reading through The Dyslexia Resource Center and have tutored and taught for them and independently utilizing that method.


I have taught English and Literature at the high school level. My experience also includes teaching students who have struggled with writing and grammar skills in a high school resource setting. I have tutored students of all ages and helped them improve in their writing and grammar skills.


Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified to teach students in grades Kindergarten through eighth. I have worked as an elementary school reading specialist and worked with students who were struggling in reading. I have also taught classes and tutored many elementary school students through my work with The Dyslexia Resource Center.


I studied phonics in college and have taken linguistic courses. I have also studied phonics extensively through my work with a Dyslexia Resource Center. I taught classes and tutored students utilizing the Orton Gillingham method. I taught as a reading specialist at the elementary school level where I taught phonics to struggling readers.

Study Skills

I have taught study skills at the high school level to students who received resource support. Through my experience as a teacher and parent I understand and am able to convey the importance of study skills to students. I am experienced at teaching time management skills, organizational skills, test taking strategies, and note taking skills.

Special Needs

I have taught students with a wide variety of special needs. I have been a teacher in self contained special education classrooms, resource rooms, and helped students in general education classrooms to succeed by working as a team with general education teachers. I have written Individualized Educational Plans for students and carried them out. I have much experience individualizing lessons to meet special needs of students.


I have taught special education students for 18 years. Many of them have had ADD/ADHD. I have taken a three credit graduate level course on ADD/ADHD through Loyola Marymount University in California. I am able to adapt lessons to meet these students needs. I have studied ADD/ADHD on my own in order to better meet the needs of my students and my son and to more fully understand how ADD/ADHD affects them in their daily lives.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have taught students at all ends of the autism spectrum from non verbal through Aspergers. I have worked closely as a member of a multidisciplinary team in order to help these students succeed to the best of their ability. I have written IEPs and set goals and objectives that I have worked on individually with these students. I have formed strong relationships with their parents. I have taken college courses, completed in-service work and read extensively about Autism Spectrum.


I am certified to teach students with learning disabilities. I have taken many classes in this area. I also was trained to teach the Orton Gillingham method of reading, spelling and writing to students with dyslexia. I worked as a teacher and tutor for a Dyslexia Resource Center. I have taught many students with Dyslexia at all age levels in the public schools.
