I am a graduate of the University of Delaware where I majored in education, receiving certifications to teach English, biology, chemistry, and general science. I taught in Wilmington, Delaware, Niagara Falls and Buffalo in New York, The Governor's School of Southside Virginia, and presently teach biology in Virginia Beach. I have written numerous articles for a variety of technology and science magazines. For twelve years (1978 to 1980) I was a technical writer for manufacturers in Tonawanda and Grand Island, New York, Chicago, and Toronto, Canada. I relocated to Grand Island and wrote manuals for Science Kit in Tonawanda, Boreal Laboratories in Toronto, Canada, motor and control manuals for WER Industrial on Grand Island, New York and Emerson Electric in Pittsburg Pa. I was recruited to develop nationwide public seminars for a nationwide investment in Buffalo, New York.
You need to tell me what levels your child is so I know how to work without your child working in areas not necessary. John L. K.
Thirty years plus of teaching included elementary students when I first taught. I had elementary classes on alternate days and taught middle school in Delaware on opposite days - - both in a very poor district. I also had majors in science (biology, chemistry, ecology, and earth science) and writing and reading. For elementary students I was able to cover nearly every subject needed. I used adventure through lessons or experiments in class or using our ecological areas around the school. I drew each student into his own writing of adventures raising his own level of learning. In my many years of teaching, I have always emphasized reading and writing skills as part of my lessons. Plus I bring the parents into the learning situation as on a zoo trip. My background includes science, math, and English, all subjects that will fit well into educating a K-6th student. I have also written 4 novels and numerous articles for educational magazines based on the unique lessons I built.
