I have successfully tutored several students in algebra I. I use various methods to help my students succeed including: verbally reviewing the problem and theory behind each example, reviewing several practice problems, assigning homework, and reviewing completed work as another way to reinforce the day's lessons. Though I have had success using these methods, I am always open to meeting the student where they are in their own studies.
I am computer literate at the basic level of computer knowledge and utility. To help students learn computer basics I am willing to work with them on their personal computer or my laptop.
As a current graduate student, my knowledge of Microsoft Word comes almost entirely from direct hands on experience with the software. I have also taken and successfully passed a college class that also covered the ins and outs of Microsoft Word. As with other computer programs, it may be best to learn in a live setting. My method would involve identifying weaknesses in the program for the student and addressing those weaknesses through example and then independent work.
My knowledge of PowerPoint is based on both classroom experience and hands on knowledge. In my experience learning PowerPoint in a live environment (i.e., using PowerPoint on a computer) is the best way to learn the program. When I teach others the ins and outs of PowerPoint I like to lead by example and then assign independent study lessons to my students.
In my collegiate career I have successfully tutored several students in prealgebra. I have used various methods to help my students succeed including discussing the theory and method verbally, going over several types of practice problems, assigning homework, and reviewing completed work for correct and incorrect answers. I also try to find ways for the student to check their work to verify their answer is correct.
As a psychology major and a 4th year graduate student pursuing a Psy.D. in psychology, I have had an abundance of writing experience. To date, I have received high marks on all of my term papers. As a tutor in the this subject, I will meet the student where they are and work to build up their skills and cofidence in writing. As testing in Georgia continues to change, writing skills are becoming more and more important. I feel that my personal experience, past feedback ,and passion to help children better develop fundamental skills in education are key factors in helping your child be the best they can be.
My expertise in tutoring spelling not only comes from my own educational experiences, but also from helping my own two children in their studies.
