Writing

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored various students in Elementary grades and am a certified Special Education Teacher and School Counselor. I have had much success with helping students develop the confidence needed for them to become successful at learning to read from basic phonic skills, increasing vocabulary and comprehension skills. Also, I've worked with students on math concepts and writing. My method of tutoring is to first of all get to know the students and focus on their strengths to help enhance the areas which are giving them difficulties to learn and/or retain new concepts.

Phonics

I have been trained in a multi-sensory approach to reading for students that struggle in phonics. Also, I have worked with special education students in the area of phonics for years. I have an understanding of the systemic approach to approaching phonic lessons with struggling readers. I am also a certified Special Education teacher.

Study Skills

I am a Certified Special Education Teacher and School Counselor with much experience working with students who struggle with organizational and study skills. In order for students to have success in studying they need help with identifying important key concepts their teachers will expect them to know. If they can learn to keep their materials organized on a daily/weekly basis using the notes from their class assignments then when it comes time to take a quiz, test and/or exam at the end of semesters or year all their materials/notes are together which makes it easier to review. I would assist students in the area of organizing their daily notes to enhance their success in study skills.

Special Needs

I have been a special education teacher for over 12 years. I'm worked with various ability levels in reading, math and writing skills. I would assess the needs of the student to develop appropriate strategies to assist the student in the area of need.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I am a Certified Special Education Teacher and School Counselor and have worked with various levels of students who have Autism tendencies. I am aware of the different levels of these students, although have the belief they are very capable of learning. These students usually have social issues and need to learn appropriate ways to interact with peers and teachers. In the students that I've have worked with there has been success on meeting their social and educational goals.

Dyslexia

I am a certified Special Education teacher and have taught many students with the struggle of dyslexia. I have been trained in a Multi-Sensory Approach to reading and other trainings in the area of Reading across the curriculum. I have a phonics program that I have used with several students that begins with an assessment and then progresses through the phonic skills in a systematic manner. I have seen much success in each students I've used this program with. They are able to begin using reading strategies and improve their confidence in reading.
