Currently, I teach ESL in an Adult Education Center. I have a Master's degree in Teaching English to Others as a Second Language. I hold a teaching license in Elementary Education and K-12 ESL certification.
I teach as an adjunct ESL professor at the Northwest Arkansas Community College. Students ask me to proofread their papers, speeches, and PowerPoint presentations. Proofreading is a part of my job that I love because I love helping others to be successful.
I am tutoring a sixth grader in elementary math.
My bachelor's and master's degrees are in Elementary Education and I hold an Arkansas teaching license. I have over 15 years of classroom teaching and tutoring experience. My tutoring methods include using worksheets, games, task cards, and manipulatives to teach and reinforce lessons. My goal is to make the tutoring session enjoyable, so the students see being tutored as a positive experience and not negative. Tutoring helps to improve a student's self-confidence in school subjects.
My bachelor's degree is in Elementary Education with a minor in reading. I studied phonics for my minor and again for TESOL master's. Currently, I use phonics in teaching English Language Learners at a community college. I believe the use of phonics is important in both reading and learning English.
Currently I teach a Successful First Year Student Class at a community college that includes teaching the students how to improve their study skills, listening ability, note taking and test taking skills. In this class, I also show the students how to find their Multiple Intelligences and their VARK strength (Visual, Aural, Read/Write, Kinesthetic) to study effectively. Teaching students to manage their time effective is another component in developing effective study skills. The activities and lessons I have created for this class would work well in a tutoring situation for students of all ages.
As an adjunct instructor, I teach Successful First Year Student classes at a community college to incoming freshman. In this class, we cover test taking skills for all a variety of subjects. The same subjects which are covered on the Praxis. I also teach Intermediate Writing classes. In this class, students review parts of speech and writing paragraphs. They also learn to write essays and cite their sources. The two essays required for the Praxis are argumentative and explanatory essays. In my classes, students have learned to write both essays. I feel I am qualified to help students prepare for the Praxis.
I am qualified to tutor homeschool students because I hold an Arkansas teaching license. In addition, I have taught and tutored in public schools. I have researched homeschooling, and I am supportive of families who choose to homeschool.
