I'm what you might call a Renaissance Man or a Jack of Many Trades. My primary area of expertise is multimedia art and design, with a focus in Adobe's Creative Cloud programs for digital illustration and graphic design. In 2004, I graduated from Forestview High School with honors (Summa Cum Laude) and immediately went to college at Appalachian State University to major in Music Industry Studies. After two years at ASU, I realized that the music industry really wasn't the path I wanted to tra... [more]
I have owned my own computers since 1996 for everything from basic, everyday functions like email, using the internet, creating and saving files and games to complex creative endeavors like game design, digital painting, and 3D modeling and animation. I know how to use both Macintosh and Windows computers, including how to customize the interface, set up networks, and add and remove programs. I also have experience in troubleshooting a wide range of issues on both Macintosh and Windows.
I have used Photoshop for nearly 10 years for a wide variety of projects, including photo editing, short animations, drawing and painting, graphic novels, and laying out mockups for web design. I took two full courses on Lynda.com to further flesh out my understanding of the program, and several of my college courses have utilized Photoshop for projects and assignments. I am extremely comfortable with this program.
I learned to use Illustrator by attending an Essential training course on Lynda.com as part of my college degree. I have used Adobe Illustrator for both school projects and work assignments for over 5 years. I use it primarily for designing logos, flyers, posters, and advertisements, but it has also come in handy for creating assets for animation projects in Flash and After Effects.
As part of my degree in animation, I have taken two college courses that focused solely on video art and film editing, and I have used video editing software for nearly every animation class I have taken. I am familiar with both Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro X, and some of my film pieces have won awards in exhibitions.
My field of study is in animation and interactive design and I have taken several college courses in 3D modeling, animation, lighting, and rendering using Autodesk Maya. I have an intermediate level of knowledge of this program and I use it frequently for portfolio projects. I have used Maya for character modeling, rigging, texture painting, building environments, animation, some particle systems, lighting, and much more. Please contact me if you wish to see examples of work.
I completed a week-long Essential Training Course for Adobe InDesign CC and I have been successfully tutoring in this subject since May 2016. I use this program on a regular basis for my freelance graphic design work.
I am familiar enough with Macintosh computers to teach the basics of using one, including but not limited to keyboard shortcuts, customizing the interface, installing and removing programs, using the Terminal to make administrative changes, and using Mac-specific programs. As a multimedia artist and animator, I do most of my work on a Macintosh computer and have been using one since 2008.
