Presentation, Practice and Production! These are the 3 P's of learning that I like to abide by in my teaching. A good tutor is someone who can explain, clarify and guide students through material; one who will give students a chance to practice, practice, practice what they've learned, and one who will lead students to producing their own work and results! I am currently a certified math teacher; I teach high school algebra and am familiar with Common Core. I received a perfect score on the math section of my Praxis test, and have been tutoring students in different math subjects including algebra, ACT math, Praxis math and college-level calculus for years.
I have been a geometry tutor for over a year, and have been teaching algebra (many concepts of which are integral in geometry) for over two years. My praxis scores demonstrate a proficiency in math content knowledge as well.
Having taught English as a second language to elementary and middle school students in Japan, so I am familiar with starting from the ground up. I have helped students with phonics, alphabet recognition, and word memorization. I have drilled and practiced skim reading, scan reading, and reading for comprehension exercises with students, all of which are very important in daily life. I love to read for fun, but am also proficient in reading texts for comprehension in a timed setting. I achieved a perfect score in the reading section of my Praxis core exam.
I have taught English as a second language in Japan for 2.5 years. I have taught toddlers, elementary, middle school, and high school students, as well as adults. I have also taught ESOL in New York City as a substitute at St.John's University. I also have a CELTA certification ("B" rank, which 1 out of 4 CELTA graduates receive).
I currently teach 6th grade math.
I am a Cornell University graduate (food science major) who passed the Praxis core exam with perfect scores in the math and reading sections, and a near-perfect score in the writing section (190/200). I have tutored 2 and 3 year olds in basic math, writing and phonics. I have taught elementary school and junior high school students English as a second language in Japan, so I am familiar with breaking down concepts so they are easy to understand. I am getting certified to teach chemistry in the US, having passed my chemistry Praxis exam as well. I believe I am well-qualified to teach k-6th grade subjects given my previous experience teaching children and aptitude in the math, reading, writing and science subject matters.
I have taken many tests throughout my career as a student, most notably the SATs, ACTs, SAT II's, Praxis Core, Praxis II, Regents and AP exams. As a high school and college student at Cornell University, I took many quizzes, midterms and final exams. Most recently, I studied for the Praxis Core in January 2014, and achieved perfect scores on the Praxis math and reading exams, and a near perfect score in the writing exam (190/200). In short, I know how to study well.
I am familiar with Common Core and have been teaching Algebra and 6th grade math in two different states, both with the the Common Core objectives, for a total of 3 years. I am familiar with the standards and objectives, as well as test preparation.
