I've been teaching and tutoring math for the past eight years, first in New York, and now here in California. I graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor's degree in English, but then became a math teacher, earning a Master's degree in Math Education. I am very well-rounded as a tutor; I can help any middle school, high school, or college student with their homework and test scores in most subjects. However, my areas of specialty are math, writing, and Spanish. I have tutored stude... [more]

Study Skills

I taught study skills for four years to high school students. I was the coordinator and primary teacher of a college preparation program that emphasized organization and study skills. I have a variety of strategies for organizing students' note-taking, writing, ready, and studying for tests.

I taught math in New York City for five years, covering such subjects as integrated algebra, geometry, and algebra 2/trigonometry. I have also graded all of these exams and know what correct answers look like and how to maximize students scores. In addition to the math exams listed above, I have tutored students for Regents exams in the following subjects: US history, global history, ELA, Earth science, living environment (biology), and physics. I have access to many practice questions as well as an archive of previous test questions so that students have an idea of what they can expect on the Regents exams. I would use those questions as the basis of my tutoring, since this is a "teach to the test" scenario.
