Hi! My name is Emily but I prefer to go by Amanda. I have obtained a B.A. in Psychology from UNCG and I am currently a research assistant in a children's development lab at UNCG. Teaching, learning, and research are my greatest loves and I one day hope to do neuroscientific research and teach at a reputable university. I spent five semesters tutoring undergraduates through a federally funded program at UNCG. My main focus was introductory biology aimed at science majors, but I also tutored in... [more]
My mother has taught Algebra I to high school students for 15 years so I have seen the subject matter time and time again. I have helped my mother write test questions for standardized tests through an online program called ClassScape. I excelled in the subject when I took it, scoring 99% proficient on the NC End of Course test.
I received the highest grade in a class of 120 in BIO 111, the introductory biology course at UNCG for science majors, pre-med, and pre-nursing students. I then went on to tutor the subject for five semesters through a federally funded program at UNCG.
I completed two semesters of a General Chemistry course designed for science, pre-med, and pre-nursing students at UNCG. I received A's both semesters. I went on to tutor the subject through a federally funded program at UNCG for five semesters.
I am an obsessive reader and word guru. I began studying vocabulary in preparation for the GRE in 2012 and it has become a habit now that I can't seem to quit. I also took six semesters of college level Latin, so I am very familiar with various roots, suffixes, and prefixes and their meanings.
I have been an obsessive reader and writer for the past 15 years. I scored a 710 on the writing and grammar portion of the SAT in high school. I also took 6 semesters of Latin in college and in doing so I learned quite a bit about English grammar.
I scored very well on the Geometry End-of-Course test in high school. I went on to do very well in several math courses in college that dealt with geometric concepts such as precalculus and trigonometry. I have tutored courses in the past such as chemistry and statistics which require similar teaching methods to a standard geometry course.

I took the test once after extensive studying and scored very well. I know the test in and out and feel comfortable providing test taking tips to the GRE novice. I also own quite a few Kaplan approved study materials that I can use to supplement sessions.
Elementary math forms the basis for other math courses I've tutored. I work with children in groups through Mad Science so I feel comfortable tutoring elementary-aged children.
