I have taken both the GRE and GMAT exams previously. I am familiar with the format and the types of questions that need to be mastered to excel on these exams!
I am versed in both ordinary and partial differential equations. From there I have utilized differential equations for modeling static properties in materials for mechanical engineering. By being able to analyze stress testing utilizing differential equations I can predict the ways materials will react to tension and compression. In addition, I have also utilized numerical methods with differential equations in finance. One project where this was utilized was in creating a pricing algorithm for the Black-Scholes pricing model. By being able to utilize numerical methods in option pricing I could predict the way that an options pricing might change over time, in both European and American markets. I have utilized differential by modeling exponential growth studies. One project that I tutored a student in was the effect of Malthusian growth on a population. The student was able to use the growth model to predict the effect of natural and man made limits on population growth and the effect it would have on a city.
I have an undergraduate degree in management science and economics and a master's degree in security analysis and portfolio management. I have worked extensively in running bookkeeping and scheduling for a small business. In addition, I have worked as a small business banker helping customers obtain financing and reviewing their business plans. From these experiences I have a strong understanding of the challenges that a business faces and solid quantitative understanding of how a business operates.
I have used SAS extensively to analyze and model data. I utilize SAS to connect with Oracle and return desired outcomes. I utilize both the data step and proc sql procedures to write code and create custom projects. I also have experience creating SAS customized reports that aggregates tables and into a view where multiple summary tables can be viewed at once. I also am familiar with SAS Enterprise Guide to work with graphics interface and to create visualization of the results after the exploratory data analysis has been completed.
I have worked with over 20 students on crafting college admission essays and college applications. With each student that I meet with I do a comprehensive analysis of their high school achievements. In the comprehensive analysis we discuss their current course load, extracurricular activities and community service. From there we review their current SAT scores and compare against the current averages for their: safe school and stretch school choices. If there scores are below school averages we begin planning for test preparation. By taking a holistic approach on all the aspects that go into college counseling, we craft a trajectory so the students can meet their overall goals.
I have prepared and studied the actuarial exams FM and P1. I am familiar with probability methods and utilizing risk models. I have posted onto the actuarial outpost website as well as studied in multiple actuarial analysis groups. I am currently constructing a risk model utilizing SAS to do predictive analytics on cash flows. From there, cash flows from a distressed debt portfolio can be projected out until 108 months utilizing actuarial triangle development factors.
I have tutored linear algebra for several students while I was in college and am familiar with utilizing linear algebra with functional analysis. In graduate school I utilized linear algebra for mapping path dependencies for supply chain analysis. In addition, I have utilized Markov Chains to analyze transition state changes and the way objects proceed from one stage to the next. I have utilized linear algebra in discussing mapping changes from a three dimensional to a two dimensional plane. I have worked with performing linear transformations on a matrix. In mathematical modeling I have utilized linear algebra as an approximation for nonlinear models that are too complex to solve directly.
I have been a tutor in the humanities and social studies in particular for several years. I enjoy helping students learn new material and understanding how history is related across time. My interests include the time from the Egyptians through the modern day. I have provided several past lectures on the Ancient Roman Empire and also the French Revolution. Utilizing different theories to how history unfolded. From the great man theory to the trends and forces theory on how history was shaped by the environments and the people that inhabited those times.
I have studied and given lessons on the classics for several years. I have written several essays on Ancient Roman History and literature. The periods I am most well versed in Roman History are from the time of the Gracchi Brothers through the principate of Octavius Augustus Julius Caesar. I have read several books and primary sources in regards to the transition from the republic to the empire. I am well versed in Gibbon's Fall and Decline of the Roman Empire, in addition to more recent works such as: Rubicon by Tom Holland, The Rise of Rome by Anthony Everitt and the Fall of the Roman Empire by Peter Heather.
I have studied political science for several years and am well versed in current affairs affecting the political landscape. In college I campaigned for local candidates for office and canvassed around the local neighborhoods. I have tutored for both the AP US Government and AP Comparative Government exams. In addition I have sat for both exams and earned a 5 on both AP exams. I enjoy helping students learn and discern the nuances in political arguments to make informed decisions about what type of candidates that they want to vote for. In addition, it is important for students to see the broad issues that are on the national stage and the role that the individual can play in making a difference.
I have been tutoring finite math for several years and enjoy helping students understand advanced non-calculus topics. I have also used finite math in business applications where theory can be applied to real life problems. One way this is done is by looking at a portfolio that a company would be looking at purchasing. We utilize analysis to determine the breakeven point of the portfolio and help ascertain the likelihood of future cash flows. By performing this analysis we can determine if it would be a wise financial decision and if the results we are looking for are reasonable. I have also utilized the finite math technique of combinatorics, to determine the possible combinations that can be created for a fixed set of inputs. Such as, how many different ways can desks be arranged and determining the optimal arrangement for performance.
I currently utilize R to complete data analysis from various sources; primarily reading in CSVs, text files as well as web data. I have utilized R code to aggregate data sources together and to present KPIs to management. I also utilize R in predictive modeling for Data imputation, scoring and model validation. I have primarily utilized R with supervised machine learning but a few cases with unsupervised machine learning algorithms.
