I am currently a PhD student at Bowling Green State University in biology. I've taught science at both the high school and college level. I'm currently teaching a biology course at BGSU. My main teaching interests are in biology, ecology, math, English, and Spanish. I also enjoy helping students prepare for standardized tests such as the ACT, SAT, and GRE.... [more]
I have more than 5 years experience tutoring students in Algebra 1. I've been tutoring both high school and junior high students in Algebra 1, and also try to prepare students from the algebra portion of the ACT/SAT tests.
My PhD studies are in biology, so this is the subject in which I have the most expertise. I have experience teaching biology courses at the collegiate level. With biology, I try to help students understand the big picture.
I'm currently a PhD student at BGSU in the biology department. I have a lot of experience teaching students chemistry. Chemistry is part of an introductory course I teach college freshmen at BGSU.
I've worked with students to improve their understanding of geometry, and to help them prepare for the geometry portion of the ACT Math test. I'v studied and taught math and science at the collegiate level. I'm currently a PhD student at BGSU in the sciences, and I teach freshman-level classes. I also taught a math course at the University of Michigan, where I studied for my master's degree.
More about my math expertise. Over the past 5 years, I have worked extensively with Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Algebra II students to improve their test scores and strengthen their understanding in the subject material. For over two years, I have taught ACT Math prep for students looking to increase their scores and apply to college. Last year I had the opportunity to teach statistics at the collegiate level at the University of Michigan.
I have been tutoring students for the SAT Math test for the past 3 years. I'm up to date with recent changes that have occurred with the test format. I work alongside students and parents to create goals, develop a study plan, and work to reach the student's target score. Generally, I follow a curriculum book and bring in some of my own resources to facilitate the tutoring lessons.
The most common tutoring requests I receive are to help students prepare for the ACT. In particular, the ACT math portion of the test can be nerve-racking for many students. I have experience teaching math course at the collegiate level at the University of Michigan, and through tutoring many students. My goal as an ACT Math tutor is to help students reach their target scores by increasing their understanding of how the test is written.
As a PhD student in the sciences, I am very experienced in the field. I'm responsible for both understanding science and writing tests for my students. Thus, I have a working knowledge of the strategy the ACT test writers use to measure a students knowledge in the sciences. In particular to the ACT Science test, I help students improve their confidence with data and graphs.
I have taken many different zoology courses at different academic institutions. My undergrad was in environmental studies, and my masters in conservation ecology. Though both of these courses I have taken relevant courses in the field of zoology, and have gained both educational and hands-on experience with zoology. With my current position as a PhD student, I mentor undergrad in the field of zoology and help them design research projects and improve their understanding of the field of zoology.
I have taken college courses in botany. I have also used plant identification for my PhD research. For this, I have trained undergrad students on botany related material.
