During college, I took some education courses. The courses were service-learning classes where I would learn about pedagogy in a classroom and then apply my learning by teaching and tutoring in the Philadelphia public elementary schools. Also, I tutored elementary school students for all four years of college. Since college, I have gained extensive experience working with K-6 students in after school tutoring programs.
I was a middle school math teacher for a number of years. Because I worked in an urban school, I worked with all of my students, and particularly with my homeroom students, on study skills. Also, I ran an after school tutoring program for students where we focused a great deal on organization and study skills. All of the students with whom I have worked have benefitted greatly from focusing on improving their study skills. In addition, I have developed some good strategies for helping students develop good study skills that serve them well in all of their subject areas.
I have a law degree and did criminal defense work for juveniles for a year. Also, I spent a year doing a federal clerkship where I focused entirely on habeas corpus and prisoner civil rights cases. Also, during law school, I taught a course called "Street Law" where I taught criminal justice.
