Study Skills

As a subject in its own right, I utilize scientifically proven curricula that encompasses basic knowledge items, thinking skills and time management. My students have been able to become more efficient, learn what they need to or want to learn, actively attack their homework and have more time left over for activities of their own choosing.

Special Needs

As a Teacher of the Handicapped since 1994, Special Needs students are my passion and job description. The method that is the cornerstone of my business is SRA Direct Instruction; which works wonders with Special Needs individuals of all types and skill levels.

SOL

Every standardized test has common elements to other standardized tests. This is good news, because it allows us to study for them. While I do not 'teach the test', I do teach test strategies, critical thinking skills and fun 'tricks' that will have students easily conquering test anxiety and able to show what they know in style. I have earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, a Master of Science in Special Education as well as several teaching certificates in two states.

TEAS

Given that The Test of Essential Academic Skills is a standardized test which assesses aptitude in Basic Skills much like the SAT, ACT, TOEFL, GED and ASVAB, the methods to teach preparation for it are essentially the same. The TEAS test includes reading, math, English /language usage and science sections. Test taking skills and anxiety alleviation techniques are also key, and all of that is what I teach when teaching test prep.

Handwriting

Handwriting is not often taught in schools anymore. But it is not enough to just have students practice on their own. This, like any other skill, must be taught. Homeschool

Although I am now a retired teacher with certificates in two states, I home-schooled my own two children for 7 years. Both graduated at 16 years old and went on to complete 4-year college degrees.
