I hold a current professional teacher's license for k - 8 in the state of Michigan. I also hold a license in North Carolina. I have worked with teaching elementary students in a variety of capacities for 15 years.

Phonics

Because I was trained in Elementary Montessori, in which reading is based on learning phonics, I have a strong background in phonics. Additionally, I taught phonics rules in my Montessori classrooms. I have also used phonics to teach second language learners.

Study Skills

Part of my training with Learning Disabilities has given me a good background with metacognitive skills. I used the teaching of study skills in a Middle School Special Education program that I developed, as well as with a High School student that I taught. Additionally, I taught my 5th grade students study skills, in both Language Arts as reading strategies but also in organization skills and test taking skills.

I am qualified to teach students with special needs because I have a k-12 Learning Disabilities endorsement from the state of Michigan. I have taught students with a variety of disabilities. Additionally, I have experience adapting curriculum for special needs students.

ADHD

I am qualified to teach students with ADD/ADHD because I have a k-12 Learning Disabilities endorsement from the state of Michigan. In fact, one of my ADHD students attained gifted and talented status after working with me for a year.
