I love teaching because I love to learn. In addition to my bachelor's degree in psychology and my master's degree in education, I have obtained credentials to teach elementary school (all subjects), K-12 science, and K-12 social studies. Vocabulary development, reading fluency, and reading comprehension are among my strengths as a teacher, and English is my favorite subject to teach. My experience as a certificated teacher has exposed me to many helpful reading resources and strategies both online and on paper. Utilizing Internet-based resources for language arts allows me to provide quick feedback and modify practice assignments when necessary.
Reading and writing have always been two of my favorite subjects to teach. In 2006 I earned my Master's degree in Education, which required the reading and writing of copious essays and articles, including my thesis. In addition to my graduate work, writing online content for local news channels has given me a broader writing experience over the last decade. I also have personal experience writing successfully on high stakes professional educational exams such as the Praxis and CSET.
I have earned a California Multiple Subjects Credential, and have five years of classroom teaching experience. I taught fourth grade for two years, and K-6 reading for one year. I also have two years of middle school science teaching experience.
I recently passed all three CSET subtests in Social Studies, and I am in the application process for my Social Studies Credential. I have studied world literature and geography, and have taken approximately two years of college history and philosophy courses.
