Calculus

Over 85% of my students in AP Calculus (both AB and BC) have scored a 4 or 5 on the AP Calculus exam. I teach for understanding of the concepts rather than teaching to the test; and thus my students are armed with an understanding of the content and the connections between Calculus concepts by the end of the course.

Precalculus

Testimonials from my students include the following from a high school senior in Precalculus: "Ms. K was able to simplify the most complicated of problems. She could break up problems into multiple parts and then bring all the parts of the problem back together to get a final answer. She relayed the information in such a simple way for us to learn it that it was like we were not in a very complicated math class."

As a classroom teacher for over 16 years, I have developed and taught all math curriculum from Math Foundations and PreAlgebra up to and including AP Calculus. My teaching philosophy is to help students build connections between concepts so that the math they study is not separate procedures. Discussions are built upon a student's current level of understanding, which is guided by the questions they ask and the actual problems on which they have difficulty. There is a constant dialogue between students and myself of question, explain, reason, and making connections between concepts. This allows each tutoring session to be tailored to an individual student's current level of understanding, with the goal to accelerate their learning from that point.
