Hello! My name is Shannon and I am a newly minted physician with a passion for education. I have been tutoring and mentoring students for almost 10 years now, and I consider my students' successes to be some of my greatest accomplishments. I earned my B.S. in Biology Summa Cum Laude and with University Honors from the University of Alabama and earned my M.D. from the University of North Carolina in 2018. My favorite subjects to teach are nursing, medicine, math, science, and test prep (SAT,... [more]
I have personally completed math courses through the college calculus sequence and earned A's in each course. I have also tutored algebra 1 in the past with significant student improvement, evidenced by course grade and a more positive outlook towards math. I can break down even the trickiest of word problems and equations into real-life examples that are on any student's level, meeting them where they are and helping them to improve their skills.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a 4.0 GPA and University Honors from the University of Alabama in 2014 and I am currently a fourth year medical student. All of that adds up to my being a capable biology tutor who uses her knowledge daily to stay sharp in the subject area. I am rather passionate about biology and, with 7+ years of experience tutoring, I can help any student to understand the concepts and appreciate the science.

As a current fourth-year medical student, I have written several successful personal statements for myself in college and medical school. I have also helped many of my classmates and colleagues to do the same, and I began offering personal statement services officially about one year ago. I now have experience crafting personal statements for medical school (AAMC and AACOMAS), dental school, and scholarship applications. I work with students in all stages of writing their personal statements, from brainstorming to final edits. Each student I have worked with has walked away from our meetings with a polished personal statement they are proud to share. I have personally scored above the 90th percentile on the SAT and completed math courses through the college calculus sequence, earning A's in each course. I have also tutored high school math in the past with emphasis on test prep and have seen significant student improvement. Much of the preparation for SAT math is strategy, and I am well prepared to teach those strategies along with the necessary math skills to score highly.
I am a newly minted MD with significant experience performing health assessments in clinical practice as well as tutoring nursing and NP students in health assessments. As a new physician, I still remember how overwhelming and broad the topic of "health assessments" can seem. Each of my students have had improvements in their confidence and grades.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a 4.0 GPA and University Honors from the University of Alabama in 2014 and I am currently a medical student. I took microbiology in college and also use and expand upon my knowledge of the subject frequently in medical school, so I have a very thorough understanding of it. I also really enjoy microbiology and am confident that I can teach the concepts to any student and add interesting details that make the subject fun.

I have been helping students ace all subjects of the ACT for 4+ years now. All of my students have had improvements in their confidence and ACT score.
I have several years of experience tutoring ACT Math. I can help your student improve their math skills, master ACT strategy, and improve their test-taking speed in a matter of weeks. I have been helping students master all subjects of the ACT for over 4 years now. I am also a medical student with a BS in Biology, so science is truly my area of expertise. As a current physician, I am highly qualified to teach the MCAT. I personally scored a 36R (98th percentile) on the exam in 2012 with a breakdown of 12 biological sciences, 12 physical sciences, and 12 verbal reasoning (99th percentile). I have taken and excelled in all of the college courses meant to prepare students for the MCAT, including general biology, chemistry, genetics, and physics. I also understand the format of the various sections well and have winning strategies for MCAT test taking. My specialty is the CARS section, which can be difficult for many students naturally inclined towards math and science. Each of my MCAT CARS students have had improvements in their confidence on test day as well as their MCAT CARS score.
