I'm the Math teacher you always wanted to have. My degree is a Bachelors of Secondary Education and I have been certified to teach Mathematics. I have successfully taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Precalc., and Physics. Although I have never taught Chemistry, College Algebra, and Statistics in the classroom I have successfully tutored these subjects. In addition I have tutored for the math sections of the SAT (I and II), ACT, General Contractors exam, Teacher Certification exam... [more]
I have both tutored individuals and been a classroom teacher for Algebra. It is a favorite subject of mine as I know that it forms the basis of all more advanced work. Having fun and using real world examples are just a couple of my strengths when tutoring this subject.
I have taught Algebra II in both the classroom as well as tutoring privately. The subject is a challenge for many students because of a lack of understanding of the Algebra I subject matter. We have fun and learn at the same time. In addition I have vast and successful experience tutoring college level Algebra students.
I was truly lucky to have a teacher who made Geometry real, I now do that for my students. My experience includes both classroom teaching and tutoring. I work hard to have fun as we discuss what we are working on.
What a great subject!! The basis for years to come. I am experienced teaching this subject both in a classroom and 1 to 1 and have excellent skills explaining the subject in terms a student 'gets'.
I have experience teaching Precalculus as both a classroom teacher and a tutor. I find that it is a critical point for most students looking for more advanced studies. We approach the subjects with both fun and rigor. I have also tutored college students who are preparing to take Calculus.
Sometimes when you are studying Trig you wonder, "How did someone come up with this?" Well that's part of the joy of the subject. Although I have been very successful tutoring trig I felt a need to refresh the concepts in my mind. So I enrolled in, and completed, a review.
My statistics education began as self taught. When I found I needed more depth of knowledge I found online courses to 'fill in the gaps'. I am currently auditing STA 2023.
I have experience preparing students for the GED. I request that we find a location that is free of distractions so we can focus. I will stick with it and find a way to explain so that a students understands why not just how!! Although my training is in Math i am competent discussing other subjects as well.
As a math guy, science has always been a big draw for me, especially the physical sciences. It is such a clear look at the relationships between the forces at work in our world. An adventure in exploration!!
I have tutored, both in person and online, in a number of subject areas. My strong suit is math but I have covered the full range of subjects included on the ASVAB exam. Most people that need help with the exam are either very good in some areas and not so strong in others or have 'test anxiety.' We will work on both.
Probability is such a neat subject. How many times does someone say 'what are the chances...'? Well this is how you know, for real, what the chances are. In addition the understanding of odds puts a bright light on betting and understanding how that works. It doesn't matter that you don't bet it's fun and interesting to know how odds are calculated.
PSAT testing is a great 'dry run' for the SAT. We will work on not only content area but also the strategies for success. A large part of doing well on this kind of test is knowing how to get to the correct answer quickly. Adding that to your skill set could be crucial.
I learned study skills over time from experience as a student, teacher and business professional. I enhanced these skills by taking and teaching classes on the subject. Tutoring in this area is a logical extension of this work. I find it very gratifying to be a part of a student's continued success.
My knowledge of Career Development is self taught and experiential. My education career started with positions as a junior varsity high-school football and middle-school basketball coach. Within 7 years, I was teaching Physics and Algebra II and I was a high-school defensive coordinator with an offer of a head coaching job. Instead, I went to work for IBM as a software troubleshooter with no experience. In 12 years, I was recognized as an expert in the products I supported and had become a valuable marketing resource. I then transitioned those skills into the outdoor amusement business as a general manager. Career development is one of the things I do best.
COOP/HSPT test performance is much the same as any other standardized testing. I have studied this particular test and understand the material tested on and the WIDE variety of subjects covered. Previous successful experience has prepared me to assist current students.
As a teacher I assisted coworkers who were using the Praxis exam to add mathematics to the list of subjects they could teach. Our approach will start with a Study Companion and use it as our base for planning a strategy to be successful on the test. Much of the training will be crossover from other test taking skills I have developed.
