Math and Science Tutor, Biochemist with Friendly and Direct style

Good day parents and students, I would like to be you or your child's tutor! I have a track record with both Upward Bound and Help Yourself, state and national tutoring programs. I have excelled and worked with students from 1st grade through 12th grade and even some college students. I have not only had tutees of mine pass desired classes, but also I have directly tutored students to 4s and 5s on Biology AP exams. I have been tutoring for over 5 years. Much of my style is student orien... [more]

Algebra 1

I continuously have been teaching algebra, geometry, algebra II, Trigonometry, and ACT Test Taking Strategy, Precalculus, and Fundamentals of Calculus in classrooms, libraries and homes for 5 years. I began my work with Help Yourself and Upward Bound in elementary and high school classrooms in Northern Illinois and Wisconsin in 2010. I am familiar with coordinate and two dimensional postulates as well as the common laws of algebra: associative, commutative, transitive, distributive, additive, etc. I am comfortable guiding a pupil from Descartes to Pythagorus for an Algebra I student.

American History

The biology courses that I?ve taken and tutored include AP biology, botany, cellular and developmental biology, biostatistics, genetics, ecology evolution and environmental biology, marine biology, biochemistry of macromolecules, and biochemistry of metabolism. Further, I have done field research in both the Amazon and the Galapagos Islands. I have also done lab research at Loyola University of Chicago, DNA sequencing opsin proteins in their developmental biology department.

My qualifications to tutor chemistry are that I have a degree in biochemistry. I have taken general chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, molecular modeling, states of matter, medicinal chemistry, and genetics.

European History

I have studied Spanish for over 6 years in school, high school and college. When I lived in Cumbaya and Quito, Ecuador as well as San Crist?bal, Gal?pagos, I communicated and loved daily with the language for 6 months. I have also used Spanish in the workplace as a manager and salesman.

I have written 3 theses in various subjects. I currently have 2 writing students. I have been tutoring writing for five years especially college entrance and collegiate formats.

BS and research in Biochemistry.

While studying botany, I used the Graham, Graham, Wilcox text. I am familiar with plant cell anatomy, ethnobotany, pollen grains, anatomy of plants (shoots, roots, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds), plant carbon fixing and respiration (C3, C4, CAM), alternation of generations, soil chemistry, and wildlife identification. I am familiar with deeper knowledge such as the characteristics, structure and function of mesophyll, xylem, phloem, meristem, procambrium and so on. I can easily diagram the differences and similarities of photosynthesis/Calvin cycle vs the ETC/Kreb's cycle. I studied Botany, Ecology, and Endemic Plants of the Galapagos while in college.

I have taken for Anthropology courses during my time at Beloit. I could happily put you in contact with staff for references. I received A's in all: Archaeology and Prehistory, Japanese History and Culture, The Accidental Ethnographer, and Asian Ethnicity. I am more than able to help out a student with High School or entry College level Anthropology, but I would not claim higher.

I have completed a genetics course using the Robert J. Brooker text. I am familar with patterns of inheritance, molecular structure of DNA and other genetic material, transcription, translation, and modification. I am also familiar and have used some genetic technologies. Also due to my thesis work I can map phylogenetic trees not only by hand but also by various tools. I am familiar with BLAST, MUSCLE, Geneious and others to manipulate and interpret DNA/RNA sequence

Organic Chemistry

I took and Passed Organic Chemistry I and II using the Browne, Foote, Iverson, and Anslyn text as well as the POGIL workbook (POGIL being the best way to learn and teach ORGO IMO). I've done extractions, purifications, chromatography,--the lot. I also am versed in IR, GC, and NMR. All levels of reactions i.e. hydroboration, Sn2, Michaelis-Menton. I can balance equations and easily assess labs and prepare solvents. Organic is my stuff and I feel confident in teaching anyone organic.
