I spent two years in Romania and Moldova as a volunteer, where I taught two free English classes per week at the beginner, intermediate and advanced level. I also met with students for individual consultations. Since returning to the United States, I have applied the skills that I learned to help several students prepare for the TOEFL.
Previously, I worked as an SAT Reading tutor for Huntington Learning Center. While there, I helped many students increase their scores significantly and gain confidence. This experience allowed me to become familiar with not only SAT Reading content, but also the test-taking strategies that are critical for success.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, which included a course in literacy teaching methods. This course covered different methods of teaching phonics and integrating phonics into the literacy curriculum. I also completed a portion of my student teaching in a first grade classroom, where I taught phonics daily during guided reading and individual instruction. I also have experience designing individualized instruction for students using phonics to improve both their fluency and comprehension.
While pursuing my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, I successfully completed an instructional psychology class. In this class, I learned about helping students to manage their time and track their academic goals. During my student teaching, all of the students I worked with made significant academic progress after working with me to create and follow a personal study plan. I am also familiar with different learning styles and have designed customized study plans suited to individual student learning styles.
While obtaining my bachelor's degree in elementary education, I completed courses in literacy development which included instruction on handwriting development. My courses covered proper formation of each English character, including the pattern that the pen must travel while forming each letter. The courses also covered common handwriting problems that students face and how to correct them. I was evaluated and on and received high scores for both my teacher handwriting and my ability to instruct students in handwriting.
