I earned a Ph.D. from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego in Earth Sciences. My undergraduate work led to a Bachelor's Degree in Geological Sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Additionally, I completed graduate coursework required for Teacher Certification at Middle Tennessee State University. I have decades of experience as a university professor and researcher of geology, geophysics, and oceanography. I have also ser... [more]
Please see my profile for more details about my background. I look forward to helping you "Ace Algebra"!
I have taught and tutored Algebra 2 and many other math and physical science for several years.
I have used higher level mathematics (including calculus, differential equations, partial differential equations, complex calculus, advanced calculus for science and engineering, spherical harmonics, geophysical data analysis, etc.) over many years as a scientist and educator. I have studied, taught, and tutored many of these. I am well prepared to help students with their calculus studies.
Having taught science and math at high school and university levels for decades and tutoring for many years, I am highly qualified to tutor for topics in Chemistry. Please see my Wyzant Profile.
In high school, Geometry was my favorite subject. I've used what I learned in Geometry on a daily basis throughout my career as a scientist and educator. Please see my profile for more details about mg background. I look forward to helping you "Get Geometry"!
I have used Microsoft Word and Excel for over 30 years as well many other programs. I used them in my work as a research scientist and educator and developed a strong proficiency on each.
Having been a university professor and high school teacher in the fields of geophysics, geology, physics, physical science, and mathematics, I am highly qualified to help you learn physics at many levels, whether it be for a course, for a standardized test, or for your personal knowledge. I am a highly experienced tutor, teacher, and mentor and I look very forward to working with you!
I have taught Pre-Algebra in middle school and tutored many students, helping them gain an understanding of the material and perform well in their classes.
As an educator and physical scientist, I've built expertise in mathematics to levels that go far beyond even advanced levels of calculus. In addition to , I understand why you need to learn the material in precalculus and how you may use it in the future. I'll break things down into manageable pieces and help you master each piece as you build a true understanding of the material. Once you understand what's going on, solving assigned problems becomes easier, and you'll do much better on tests and the class overall!
I've used the the material in SAT Math on a daily basis throughout my career as a scientist and educator.
As a retired university professor, I am highly qualified to help you prepare for math and science portions of the GRE. I can also help with other aspects of the GRE as well. I look forward to working with you as you prepare for this important exam.
Having retired from being a university professor and a high school teacher who taught Physical Science (as well as math, physics, geology, and other courses) for years, I am highly qualified to help you through your Physical Science experience!
I'm pretty sure won't find a better geology tutor. I have a Ph.D. from the illustrious UC San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography and have been a faculty member at the Joint Graduate Program for Oceanography of MIT and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and at Vanderbilt University. I've taught and mentored generations of students in geology, as well as in many related fields in science and math. I look very forward to working with you to improve your understanding of any aspect of Geology!
Having taught science and math at high school and university levels for decades and tutoring for many years, I am highly qualified to tutor for the ACT Tests in Math. Please see Wyzant Profile

I taught the Physics/Math portion to students taking The Princeton Review MCAT prep course. I also tutored students in this portion of the test. I also have completed Organic Chemistry and many Chemistry classes, so I'm able to tutor on the O-Chem and General Chem portions of the MCAT as well. I'm not a sufficient expert to teach the biology portion. I'm an excellent writer and general scientist, and have taught numerous graduate students how to write technical papers. I earned a Ph.D. from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
I've been using Macintoshes since 1985 for many purposes, including writing, spreadsheets, programming, scientific research, etc. I have become adept at myriad ways of doing things in the Macintosh Operating system in MacOS versions 2 - X- , including the most recent version, MacOS 10.12.6. I have extensively used the standard apps supplied with the Mac or downloaded from the App Store. I have assisted and tutored many people on how to use Macintoshes during my time as a professor and tutor.
For many years, I have taught and tutored college and high school math, high school physics, undergraduate and graduate students in Geophysics and Geology at Vanderbilt University, the math/physics portion of the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test), and other subjects. I also passed the Praxis test, including performing outstandingly on the math portion. I received excellent student reviews of my teaching and have been very effective in improving student performance.
