Recently I moved back to New York City. Previously, I taught English classes including developmental English classes, grammar, reading skills, English 101, and ESL at Bellevue College in Bellevue, Washington. I have taught reading skills to students at all grade levels, so I realize that these important skills and techniques can be learned at any age.
I have helped students brainstorm their ideas, organize their thoughts, and write complete sentences and fluid paragraphs. I also work on handwriting so that the student will feel more comfortable working on writing assignments.
in the recent past, I taught grammar skills, process writing, reading comprehension, and test taking skills. These skills are applicable to studying any subject, including Social Studies and the sciences.
I have experience teaching students for whom English is not their first language. Among the skills I taught were reading, writing, vocabulary, speaking, and comprehending in a variety of situations. I taught these skills to adults in a program at Arkansas State University and in the ESL and English programs at Bellevue College in Washington state.
I have helped prepare high school students to take the SAT exams for many years. The strategies and skills the students learn and practice preparing for the exam will be useful in college and in their eventual careers.
For years, I have worked with high school students to prepare them for their ACT. Although it is a lot of work for both of us, the result is rewarding.
I have tutored all sections of the ACT in the past. Certainly, now is an especially good time to work on the ACT. As an added bonus, the grammar skills and test taking techniques that you learn will enhance the rest of your high school and college experiences.
