Dear Future Students and Parents, Passionate about the arts, I have spent my life personally seeing and studying how it can be applied to most aspects of life and storytelling! It can impact the lives of both young and old. I teach ages 8+ (and adults are welcome!), but will make an exception for a younger passionate art enthusiast. My lessons are catered to your needs and interests to best engage both the student?s interest and creativity in ways that they find fun and exciting. From the... [more]
I have been using Microsoft Excel since roughly 2005. I have been using it since then to create personal budgets and money/spending tracking, create schedules for film productions that can color adjust and track progression, demonstration and presentation purposes, and for personal charts to track and manage time.
I have been using Microsoft word since at least 1998. I have used it for basic reports, creating thesis papers, resume creation, letter writing, modify and alter various board game rules, and set up easy printable sheets with information taken off of websites that would mostly print advertisements otherwise.
I have been using Microsoft PowerPoint since at least 2005. I have used it to present in a variety of capacities including, but not limited to: book reports, "about me" presentations, instructions and "how to's", group presentations, displaying progress reports, showing process/production of specific animated films, and teaching lessons to students.
On top of knowing both HTML and CSS, in my undergraduate I took a class on website creation and designed/built many mock/dummy websites. I also designed and built my own professional site (rjstansell.com) with solely html and css.
I have been using Adobe Photoshop since 2004 to create art and alter photographs. I started to learn Photoshop on my own, but took classes in both high school and undergraduate levels on how to create professional level alterations and art. I have been awarded for my digital work in 2007 by Culture Shapers, and have continued to use it for illustration and design purposes.
I have been using adobe illustrator for design purposes to create business cards, websites, resumes, and cover letters. I have also used it to create vector art for posters.
I received my Bachelor's in Illustration and Animation at California College of the Arts, in which I did all my digital 2D animation in adobe flash. I even took a class specifically designed to teach all the ins and outs of Adobe Flash for animation, coding, and web use.
On top of knowing both HTML and CSS, I have designed and built many mock/dummy websites. In California College of the Arts, I took a class solely about the design and creation of websites that can work cross browsers and look aesthetically pleasing to viewers without sacrificing user ease of navigation or use. I also designed and built my own professional site. I have illustration and design skills to add in my web design knowledge.
I have studied film and film production in both my graduate and undergraduate courses in animation, with a major focus on animated films. I have been in both graduate classes on the production of live action as well as animated film. I have also been in both production and directors roles for animated student's shorts, such as Will to Fly, Hunted, Fish Tale, Bomber, and others. I have also been a teacher's assistant for an animated 3D film production class, in which I had to help the students create an animated short within ten weeks from start to finish.
I am working to finish my Master of Fine Arts in Animation at Savannah School of Art and Design. During the entirety of my masters, and a few courses of my undergraduate, I was using maya for my animations. Some of the relevant fields of study at the university level include Advanced Animation, Naturalistic Animation, and 3D Production. I have also been in a leading role in several 3D animated short films some include: Will to Fly, Hunted, Fish Tale, and Bomber. I was also a teacher's assistant for a 3D production class in which I helped the students go through all the steps to make an animated short film within maya.
As well as knowing html and css, I have used dream weaver to create a few test/dummy sites as well as my own professional site). I started learning it 8 years ago for a 4D class about time based art.
I have been using a Macintosh for my personal laptop computer since 2007. My undergraduate college, California College of the Arts, only used Macintosh. I had to solely rely on Macintosh for all four years of my undergraduate studies, and the years since graduation where I maintained and continue to use my Mac. However, my graduate studies was primarily Windows based and I started to switch between a Mac and windows depending on what the job required.
I started using Outlook in 2004 for personal and family matters. I set up to direct all mail received through my website to outlook. I also used it to schedule and set up reminders on important events, dates, etc. that needed to be remembered and pop open, to store important information that I didn't want lost or unsorted, and to keep an updated and combined contact information between myself and the rest of my family.
I have been using Microsoft Windows since I was 8 years old. My dad, a computer programmer, taught me how to use Windows. It was the only operating system in our house and the only system I used until I finished high school. Then, in my graduate studies, my school was primarily Windows based and I started to use Windows again for both school and personal use, going between a Mac and Windows depending on what the job required.
I have studied film in both my graduate and undergraduate courses in animation, with a major focus on animated films. I have had to watch, study, and analyze films from both Time Magazine's top 100 movies list and American Film Institute's top lists (including overall top 100 films, top 100 thrills, top 100 laughs, and top 100 passions). I have been in both production and directors roles for animated student's shorts. I have taken classes focusing on both the production and creation of live action films and animated films.
My undergraduate at California College of the Arts was a dual major between illustration and animation. In the illustration side, I had to focus not only on creating imagery, but designing the imagery and the spaces it ft into. Some of the relevant fields of study at the university level include Designing for Shot, Story Boarding, Sequential Illustration, and Children's Book Illustration. My illustration thesis was create the book design, all the illustrations, and print the final product at a professional quality level.
