My philosophy is to provide step by step instruction while helping guide students' thinking so that they can develop a deep understanding of the concepts. ACT Reading

The ACT reading section is one of the most difficult sections for students to master. Mastering this section requires excellent close reading skills, quick decision making, and an understanding of what each question is testing. I believe in teaching reading and speed reading skills alongside of strategies. All of the students that I have tutored in ACT Reading have significantly improved their scores using my method.


ACT English

The English section of the ACT was my strongest section when I took the exam. Mastering this section requires excellent process of elimination skills, quick decision making, and an understanding of what each question is testing. All of the students that I have tutored in ACT reading have significantly improved their scores using my method.

My method includes an analysis of weak areas, re-teaching of those areas and guided practice, and practicing the math section under real test conditions.

I am a licensed teacher in two states for K-8th grades. Additionally, I earned a Master's degree in Elementary Education. I have experience teaching 3rd grade in a classroom setting.


Phonics

I have a Master's Degree in education. A large part of this degree was dedicated to a study of literacy instruction, including best practices for teaching phonics. In addition, I have taught phonics to elementary students as well as English Language Learners.


Study Skills

As a classroom teacher, I created organizational systems for my students. I also taught students the best methods of studying. I help students by making study calendars, choosing methods, and setting clear study goals.


MTLE

I am a licensed elementary school teacher in the State of Minnesota. In order to earn my license, I have passed the Basic Skills MTLE assessment, the Elementary Pedagogy MTLE assessment, and the elementary education MTLE assessment. I was able to study for and pass all of these assessments on my first attempt.


Common Core

I have a Master's degree in Education and studied the Common Core while I earned it. I used the Common Core state standards to prepare and align my instruction in both math and reading as a classroom teacher. I would be able to use Common Core aligned assessment to help find where students' gaps are in the content.
