Music Production

My first experience with producing music came when I bought a $99 Yamaha Keyboard and a drum machine. Using 3 cassette tape recorders, I would record one part into a cassette tape recorder and play it back while recording a second part. From there, I bought a 4-channel cassette tape recorder. I was getting better at it, but it was still pretty primitive. Eventually, I moved up to an Ensoniq ESQ-1 8 channel Synth/Sequencer, which eventually included a Roland D110 and a U220. I still had to record those two tracks onto an 8-Track Reel-to-Reel, so I could add vocals. Now, I record everything in Garage Band, which isn't as professional of a tool as some of them are, but the principles are the same. I have been writing, arranging and producing music for over 30 years. A lot has changed, but what hasn't is what makes a good song. That part will always stay the same!
