As an elementary teacher with more than 20 years of teaching experience, I have taught reading on a daily basis. Teaching reading is one of my passions! So much so that I went back to school and got a Masters degree in reading. I am certified in Maryland as a reading specialist and have worked as a Title I reading teacher.
I enjoy teaching writing and try to make it fun for my students. I gear my lessons on my students' needs; organization of the writing, sentence structure, using more powerful language, developing a theme and content, as well as the mechanics of writing. I have taught writing as a teacher for more than 20 years.

I have been an ESL/ESOL teacher for 16 years. I love working with English Language Learners! It is so exciting to watch and participate as they become more comfortable with English. I have a Masters degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.) I am able to help with all aspects of learning English, listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, as well as discussing cultural issues encountered living in a new culture.
It wasn?t until I was in college, taking a Math for Teachers course, that I understood WHY math works. I, like so many students, went through school learning the steps to come out with the right answers without actually understanding the concepts of math. For several years, I worked as a Title I math teacher and discovered that I could teach math so that students could understand the concepts. I watched over and over as, ?the lightbulb came on? for my students. I use concrete objects to help students ?see? how math works. For many students, the visual image is the step that is needed to help understand the abstract concept.
