Culturing a love for learning

I have been tutoring for the past five years. My first time I was teaching a Junior college student at Jeff state and I was only fifteen years old. After that, I knew that I absolutely loved tutoring. My favorite aspect of tutoring is when I see a student's eyes light up after a three hour session when they finally understand. I truly believe that when you persevere through a topic you never forget how to do that type of problem. I like to think that I make the sessions fun for the studen... [more]

Algebra 1

Thus far I have tutored seven people in the past two years in Algebra 1 & 2. I have a pretty firm grasp of the material and how to teach it in a way that is understandable.

Algebra 2

I have been a tutor for the past five years in subjects ranging from addition and subtraction to Calculus.

American History

In the past few years I have tutored students and athletes in American History at UAB. I have also taught high school students as well.

For the past decade I have been tutoring a range of students in mathematical subjects from addition to Calculus II and everything between.

I have been tutoring in pre-algebra for almost a decade now. By far, I have the most tutoring experience in this area.

I have been teaching the basics of essay writing to Pleasant Grove High School students and to UAB Athletes for the past two years. I have written several essays during my time at UAB and the History department has asked me to publish in the Vulcan Historical Review. My essay on Malcolm X's return from Mecca was presented at the UAB Expo. Following in the footsteps of Constance Kemi and Maria Montessori, I truly believe that ultimately students teach themselves. The goal of all educators is to guide the process.

ACT Math

Over the past year, I have been teaching and tutoring college courses. I have also been working with high school students to prepare for college and take the ACT.

I have been playing piano for about eight years. I played for the International Alliance of Apostolic Ministries' general convention for three consecutive years. I have been playing for my church since 2008 and I have taught dozens of students since then. As the current music minister for the Lion's Cross Church, I have had to learn how to play several instruments and now I am teaching them to the music ministry members. I started playing violin at three years old, and from that and having to learn some classical piano I can read sheet music. I love playing, teaching, listening, and learning about all instruments with keyboards.

When I was in the 4th grade my mom pulled me and my younger brother out of public school. I spent the next eight years as a homeschooled student. Not only did I have to teach myself all of my middle and high school subjects, but I also taught my younger siblings. Now I am a junior at UAB majoring in mathematics. As a former homeschooler, I understand the unique challenges that homeschooling families face. I have been tutoring in a range of subjects for over a decade, and I am a STEM Education minor at UAB so that I can become an even better instructor.
