Greetings! As an innovative tutor, I help students achieve their academic goals by developing customized learning environments and teaching strategies based on individual needs, strengths, and interests. I'm passionate about education and have a strong academic background; I attended one the top boarding schools in the country, and I hold a B.A in History with a minor in Germanic studies from Chapman University, where I graduated cum laude. I currently run a successful business as a freelance... [more]
I hold a bachelor?s degree in history, and I have tutored many high school and college students, both individually and in groups, in a variety of historical subjects. In tutoring students in history, I focus on research and analytical writing, test prep and study skills, and general comprehension of the material. I tutor in all subsections of history, including AP history courses (World, U.S, European).
I am an expert in English, writing, and literature because of my strong liberal arts background and career as a professional editor and copywriter. I am proficient in various writing formats including, APA, MLA, and Chicago Manual of Style. I work with students on all stages of the writing process, including helping them cultivate skills like critical thinking, conducting research and citing sources, organizing and developing ideas, and analytical writing. I also help students with the sentence structure, grammar and vocabulary in their writing.

I am an effective GRE tutor because I have experience both helping students prepare for this test, as well as taking this exam myself. When I prepared for the GRE, I developed time-effective studying techniques that I now use when tutoring other students in GRE prep. I have an in-depth knowledge of the test?s format, and my GRE scores rank at or above the 90th percentile in both the verbal reasoning and analytical writing sections.
I scored above the 90th percentile when I took the SAT, which means I have an in-depth knowledge of the older style SAT format, but more importantly, I have spent the past year learning and researching the new 2016 SAT format. I help my test prep students transition to, and master the new SAT by explaining the recent changes in the exam and teaching strategies and study habits created specifically for the revised SAT.
I currently work with students from across the country in their college admissions process for undergraduate to Ph.D. level programs. I have personally been through the admissions process at private boarding school (high school), and at undergraduate and Ph.D. level programs. I work in academia and education reform and have therefore developed extensive contacts at various elite universities and graduate programs, which gives me untapped insight into the admissions process that I continue to supplement with extensive research on HigherEd, the Chronicles of Higher Education, EdTech, and Hack Education.
