I have had over 40 years of successful tutoring and have taught for over 35 years with VBCPS. I have a BS in Early Childhood Education from Hampton University.(1976) I have a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from George Washington University. I am also endorsed in Gifted Education from thr University of Virginia. I retired from VBCPS in 2009 after a successful career teaching in grades K-2 and also as a Gifted Resource Specialist in grades K-5. Since my college years, I have tutored children in my church, school, outreach programs, and my home. The success rate of my tutoring is 95%.
Part of training for the teaching of gifted and high ability students was to understand their specific needs. Many gifted students need help with organizational skills. Using a variety of strategies, assistance is given to students to help them in this area. Helping them to understand their self-efficacy allows for better grades in school.
After retirement, I was hired as an SOL tutor for students in grade 3-5 in math and reading at local elementary schools.
