I lived in Madrid, Spain for five months as part of a semester abroad and have visited Guatemala twice. I also tutored beginning and intermediate Spanish students during my four years at Wofford.

ACT Reading

ACT English

In college I was trained in critical reading, writing, and thinking. These skills translate well to the ACT in English. In addition, I have been successful in this test--I scored a 35 on the ACT English during my junior year of high school.

Elementary Math

I have many years experience as a tutor, including a full school year tutoring elementary students. During that time, I tutored students who were significantly struggling in math and managed to help those students raise failing grades and grow in confidence as learners. I attempt to break math problems down and emphasize understanding over rote completion.

Computer Programming

I write code every day as Senior Web Developer for the City of Raleigh, North Carolina. I am most familiar with JavaScript, but I'm also expanding my skills into functional languages like Elixir and general-purpose languages like Ruby. I love programming and hope to share my skills and passion with students.

Computer Science

I currently work as a software developer and have a background in computer programming, having completed coding bootcamp at The Iron Yard. In addition, I'm enrolling at NC State University for additional coursework in Computer Science. I'm strongest in computer programming and Internet protocols, but have a general knowledge of algorithms and the math underpinning theoretical computer science.

Logic

I have a background in computer programming, which has logic as a fundamental underpinning. I'm familiar with logic as well, as I enrolled in a logic course in college and took analytical philosophy. As a programmer, my daily practice of having to think through abstract problems helps me to apply logic to puzzles and everyday situations.

JavaScript

I completed The Iron Yard's rigorous course in Front-End Engineering and web development fundamentals. As a result, I'm competent in Javascript and its modern frameworks (React, Angular, Backbone) as well as jQuery, and Handlebars.js. I'm currently working as a web developer and am learning Node.js on the side.
