My number one priority is that you or your child gets results and is engaged with what we are working on. With testing that means I'm always paying attention to how the student is thinking and how I can best prioritize the skills they need to do better. With academic students it means finding what they understand, finding what they don't, and bridging that gap at a speed they can understand but are still engaged with. The value of tutoring comes from individualized attention, so whatever I... [more]

Algebra 1

I have worked with many students of different ages on algebra. I understand the parts that cause difficulties for most students and am very patient with explaining new concepts.

Algebra 2

I have worked with many algebra 2 students. I have come up with a lot of approaches to common work so that we can find the one that makes the most sense together.

Calculus

I have worked with many Calculus students. I have come up with a lot of approaches to common work so that we can find the one that makes the most sense together. At the U of M I took through Calculus 4, and I received a 5 on my own AP Calculus test, so I understand all levels of the content.

Geometry

I have worked with many geometry students. I have come up with a lot of approaches to common work so that we can find the one that makes the most sense together.

Prealgebra

I have worked many students in pre-algebra. Parents and teachers have both reported back that students seem more confident after working with me. I try hard to make the work fun, approachable, and also to fill any knowledge gaps that might exist.

Precalculus

I have worked with many pre-calc students and have come up with multiple ways to explain most problems, so that we can find the one that works best for each individual student.

Study Skills

I have worked with students with a variety of barriers to getting their work done, including ADHD and anxiety, as well as students who just generally need help staying in track. I myself was diagnosed with ADHD in high school, and have taken study skills classes for my own purposes, and can empathize with the struggles students can have.

Trigonometry

I have worked with many Trig students. I have come up with a lot of approaches to common work so that we can find the one that makes the most sense together.

ACT Reading

I have multiple years of experience tutoring all sections of the ACT test, including the Reading section. I have worked with students coming from all starting scores, and use a rigorous but adaptable curriculum to make sure that every possible question type is covered. I use a combination of real tests and targeted skill building to make sure that students are learning as much relevant information as they can, at a level that is appropriate for them.

ACT Math

I have worked with dozens of ACT students on all sections of the test, including ACT Math. I use a combination of real tests and targeted skill building to make sure that students are learning as much relevant information as they can, at a level that is appropriate for them. Over time I have figured out many different ways to explain most problems students will encounter, so while problems may seem confusing to students at first, we can find a way that makes sense to them.

Elementary Math

I have worked with many elementary math students and enjoy finding new ways to engage them with the material. While drill can be useful, I also try to find ways to make the learning fun as well by coming up with games or creative ways we can work on skills. I'm very patient with younger students who may not have the ability to focus for as long, or who may need more repetition.

Macroeconomics

When earning my political science degree I studied a lot of economic theory, I understand why all of the rules and formulas are the way they are. Economics can seem like a confusing jumble of lines and formulas, but I pride myself on demystifying the complexity. I received a 5 on my AP Econ test, and I'm happy to teach directly to this test in addition to helping with coursework at any level.

Discrete Math

I have taken college level discrete math classes. Discrete math is also a large component of computer science, which I have a BA in.

ADHD

I have worked with many students with ADD/ADHD diagnosis both tutoring as well as on the teams I coach. As a child I was diagnosed with ADHD and have taken college classes on strategies for handling ADHD symptoms. I am very understanding of the extra structure that ADHD students need.
