Also, I have been a full time instructor for two years following my students ARDs and documented modifications. I have tutored athletes with severe ADD and learned how to best accommodate their hyperactivity. I catered my lesson to allow more movement and productive physical activity. It is essential that students with ADD or ADHD have an avenue to channel their energy. I create lessons that allow them to move while staying engaged. I also use videos and engaging presentations to help with their focus.
I have two years of formal teaching experience teaching Dyslexic students. As a tutor I have worked with two students twice a week for a semester to improve their literacy skills and leverage their problem solving skills. In addition, I have completed training with The International Dyslexia Association to help them create strategies to aid those students in their progress. After this 8hr certification I passed the exam on the first attempt. I have learned from my Dyslexic students in the past that cursive is challenging to read and my notes or comments must be written in clear print. I have also learned that colored paper helps their absorption of material. In addition, I have used fill in the blank notes in the past to help the students stay focused and use our time more wisely.
My background and credentials include a biology minor. In this minor I completed a four hour course on genetics. This course included lectures, tests, and lab assignments. I lead study groups with my peers for tests and prep for laboratory assignments. Following the completion of the course and my high grade I reached out to the genetics professor of research. I did research with my genetics professor the following year including going abroad to get more data.
I have taught middle school science for two years. Both of these years we have focused on STAAR prep everyday. I know how to access all of the TEKS and the difference between a supporting TEK and a readiness TEK. I have been taught how to evaluate a students results to help them determine where they struggled most. I also have access to study guides and test prep for all STAAR exams. I have administered six STAAR practice exams and three official STAAR exams to 26 students.
