I completed a Master of Science degree in biology and a Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, and graduated with a GPA of 3.8. I am approved to teach algebra I via WyzAnt, and I also taught one year of 7th grade pre-algebra in a public school. When I was in 8th grade, I had a wonderful, enthusiastic teacher who gave me a great foundation in using algebra for problem solving. As a result of his teaching, I enjoy the challenge of using algebra to solve real world problems. I hope to pass that on to others, as well.
I love the study of living things. My undergraduate degree is in Life Science Secondary Education. I taught 7th grade life science for three years before deciding to pursue a master's degree. While attending Stephen F. Austin State University as a graduate student, I worked as a biology tutor in the Academic Assistance and Resource Center at the university. After completing my Master of Science degree in biology in 1991, I also taught general biology and ecology for two years as an interim instructor at Stephen F. Austin. I currently enjoy tutoring biology to students both in person and online.

I created many of my own materials and activities in order to give my students greater understanding of topics such as potential and kinetic energy, energy transformations, forces, and simple machines.
I have successfully tutored clients in the science and math portions of the ASVAB. I have experience teaching the math and science skills that are tested on the ASVAB in public schools. I know how to give my students strategies to help think through complex questions on standardized tests.

I have owned and used Macintosh computers since 1988 for academic and business purposes. The first computer I purchased was a Macintosh, and I've stuck with them ever since. I am familiar with Apple's operating systems, and know how to do basic troubleshooting.

As an 8th grade teacher, I prepared my students for the Science STAAR test. I was pleased to see that, as a group, they met or exceeded the average STAAR scores in the state and in my school district. Also, I have assisted students in math STAAR Intervention sessions during the school day and occasionally after school.
