Hello! My name is Hugo, and I am a math and statistics tutor. I earned my Bachelor's degrees in applied mathematics and statistics from the University of California, Berkeley. I have tutored math and statistics at Mount San Antonio College over the course of a spring semester and a summer session, and while there, I took two classes on training to become a tutor. I have also tutored over 600 hours with Wyzant! I like to encourage all of my students and boost their confidence because I believ... [more]
I was the top student in my class when I took this in middle school. The fundamentals taught in this course come up in virtually every math and statistics class that I have ever taken. I have tutored this subject countless times and it is one of my favorites to tutor.
I was in the top of my class when I took this in high school. I have tutored this subject countless times and it is one of my favorites to tutor. I have also tutored both high school students and college students in this subject.
Calculus is the subject that I have tutored the most while at Mt. SAC. I took Calculus I in high school and both II and III at Mt. SAC, with A's in all three courses. The quality professors I had for these courses prepared me for the advanced math classes I took at UC Berkeley.
This was my favorite subject in school. I believe that developing confidence is key to building a strong mathematical foundation. I have tutored many college students in this course that needed a boost in confidence and a reassuring mentor such as myself.
My calculus teacher in high school gave our class a 2 week review of precalculus in the beginning of the course, for those of us who skipped it, and it prepared me for the rest of the class very well. I have tutored this subject many times as a tutor at Mt. SAC and as a WyzAnt tutor. I have also tutored both high school students and college students in this subject.
My calculus teacher in high school gave our class a 2 week review of trigonometry in the beginning of the course, for those of us who skipped it, and it prepared me for the rest of the class very well. I have tutored this subject many times as a tutor at Mt. SAC and as a WyzAnt tutor. I have also tutored both high school students and college students in this subject.
This is my absolute favorite subject to tutor, as well as the subject that I tutor the most. The fundamentals taught in this course prepared me for the advanced statistics courses that I took at UC Berkeley. I have a passion for statistics that shows in my tutoring, and I hope that my enthusiasm for this subject will inspire you!
Probability is one of the most fun, challenging, and rewarding subjects. If you are struggling in this subject, I will do my best to help you develop a deep appreciation for it.
I took CSCI 190, Discrete Math Applied to CS, at Mount San Antonio College during the Winter 2013 session, and it is equivalent to UC Berkeley's Math 55, Discrete Math. I love to help students learn basic proof techniques that are essential for success in advanced math courses. If you are having difficulty with proofs, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
Linear Algebra has been prominent in most of my advanced Statistics classes that I've taken at UC Berkeley. Aside from taking the introductory linear algebra course that most students take alongside differential equations, I've also taken an advanced linear algebra course that really digs into the theoretical aspect of linear algebra.
