I teach various techniques to assist with the understanding and retention of vocabulary terms including mnemonic devices, visual aids, root words, context clues, and reading comprehension.
I have studied and taught both descriptive and prescriptive grammar. I can help students learn and review the structured rules of grammar as well as how grammar usage influences meaning.
In the classroom, I have applied various techniques to assist with reading comprehension and retention including mind maps and other graphic organizers, Cornell notes, and metacognition among others.

I have a B.A. and an M.A. in English. I studied literature, linguistics, and philosophy in particular as a part of these degrees. I have been teaching English in a middle school and high school classroom for 10 years.
I have studied and taught various literary periods in American, British, and World Literature as well as literary criticism and philosophy. I know and have used the typical novels for middle school and high school classrooms.
