Homework help, study guiding, and test prep

Hi there, my name's Michael and I'm a tutor living in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles. Over the course of my academic career I've developed a host of strategies and work ethics in pursuit of good grades and learning. Now that I've graduated from college, I'm ready to start passing on my experience to other young learners to help them get the grades they need and approach tests and the future of college with confidence. I have a strong academic background, graduating as Salutatorian - Sum... [more]

Study Skills

I am proficient in note-taking, study-guide-completion, and efficient time management and am equipped to share this experience with others in a hands-on and cooperative way that emphasizes diligence and boosts confidence in one's ability to prepare for exams. During my tutoring career I have had lots of experience helping students prepare for tests by guiding their study schedule and areas of emphasis based off of what we agree to be the most important parts of the upcoming exam for them to solidify. I employ a method of explaining assignments and going over past exams based off the feedback of the student indicating their greatest needs. All of these efforts have been met with success and rising grades.

Adobe Flash

I began teaching myself to animate in Adobe Flash when I got my first drawing tablet at the beginning of college. After three years of self-learning, I finally had time in my schedule to take an actual university-level animation course, only to find that the artistic and technical skills I had developed had already covered everything the class meant to.

Video Production

As an actor, it has become necessary for me to learn the art of film making. In addition to the artistic side of it, I am well-versed in the technical side of it as well, having much experience in shooting and cutting together both live-action and animated films in programs like Adobe Premiere and Adobe After-Effects. Also, I have taken classes on the subject in high school and in college, such as Digital Production and The Collaborative Process. As a result, I have a couple of YouTube channels full of short films I've worked to shoot and edit over the years and have developed an intuitive and practical approach to film making.

Classics

When I was in college I decided to minor in Classics after having completed two semesters of Latin courses. With my theatrical background already familiarizing me with the Greek and Roman plays, I broadened my knowledge of antiquity with courses on Greek Law, Ancient Epic Literature, and a hearty enthusiasm for Mythology. I am always eager to share my fascination with antiquity with new learners as my professors inspired in me, transforming complicated and intimidating stories like The Iliad and Oedipus Rex into human and accessible roots of modern storytelling.
