Elementary (K-6th)

With a Masters in Special Ed, I have experience teaching self-contained and resource classrooms for all grades from K-6th for all subjects. I was responsible for Reading, Language Arts, Phonics, Spelling, Math, History, and Science. I even had grades K-6 in the same classroom for all subjects.

Phonics

Between professional and personal experience with teaching special needs kids and struggling readers, I have had a lot of experience teaching phonics and using many different phonics programs and strategies. I am experienced with Abeka phonics for homeschool also. As a certified teacher, I also homeschooled my kids from K through 8th grade. I also dealt with learning problems and special needs both personally and professionally. Special Needs

Along with my Master's degree for Special Needs, I have both personal and professional experience with many different disabilities including Down Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, Autism, Behavior Disorders and Learning Disabilities and Mentally Handicapped. As both a sibling and a mother of special needs children I have a compassionate and nurturing attitude with an encouraging firmness that helps each child feel confident yet work hard to progress to the next level. I also have many techniques and strategies to help them cope with their individual learning challenges.

ADHD

As a special needs teacher with a Master's degree, I have had many ADD/ADHD children in my class. Many of the students with disabilities also had ADD/ADHD diagnoses as well. With as much as 60% of my class identified and medicated for ADD/ADHD at one time, I learned many academic and behavioral interventions that can help them cope with their issues and succeed.

Handwriting

As a proponent of the importance of handwriting and how it can affect learning across many subjects, I took additional time to research and understand the process on my own above and beyond my Master's degree in Education. My experience teaching handwriting includes helping special needs children learn both manuscript and cursive handwriting in both group and individual teaching situations. There are many prerequisite skills for good penmanship which are often overlooked but critical to success.

Homeschool

As a certified teacher, I also homeschooled my kids from K through 8th grade. I also dealt with learning problems and special needs both personally and professionally.
