I graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in Psychology, Economics, and Biology, and I received my Master's in Public Health from Drexel University. I offer college counseling and professional school application assistance, especially with the essay responses. I have worked with students applying to undergraduate programs, graduate programs (ie. I have taught many students pre algebra because it is a crucial subject to learn in order to succeed at higher level mathematics. I have helped students perform well on private school entrance exams, SAT, ACT, and math classes.
As a current SAT Prep Teacher at a community center, I am very familiar with the new SAT test format and I am able to tailor individualized SAT tutoring sessions for students based on their strengths and weaknesses. I have been teaching SAT Prep for over 5 years now and thoroughly enjoy doing it because I believe that every child should be able to attend college and pursue their education.
After receiving a perfect score on the SAT as a sophomore, I helped my fellow peers prepare for the SAT and achieve high scores. After high school, I continued to help students prepare and perform well on their SATs and ACTs. The each section of these standardized tests require different test taking strategies. As a result of this, I teach students the material and concepts they need to know, and I teach them effective test taking strategies so they can perform well under time constraints.
Due to my background in economics, mathematics is a personal strength of mine and I enjoy helping student enjoy it as much as I do. Tackling the ACT requires a thorough understanding of the material, coupled with strong test taking strategy to ensure that the student is able to perform well under time constraints. I scored a perfect score on the ACT and have helped many students score a 30 or above as well.
I have worked with numerous 5th graders to improve their math, reading, and overall study skills in an effort to prepare them for middle school. Many of the students I have tutored eventually worked with me to do well on entrance exams to private schools. I am proud to say that all of them performed well and were accepted to wonderful private schools.
I graduated from a private, college preparatory school in Miami, FL called Palmer Trinity School, where I had exemplary college counselors at my constant disposal. These counselors were in consistent contact with me all throughout high school to ensure that I was taking the proper steps to prepare myself for college. They made sure I challenged myself and took the necessary courses that would best prepare me for the pre-med track in college. They also made sure that I took the necessary college standardized tests on time such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and SAT Subject tests to ensure that I was always one step ahead of the process. My counselors also sat down with me on a regular basis during my junior and senior year of high school to review and edit my college essays and applications. They also provided me with a wealth of knowledge about different universities I should apply to, and what I should be focusing on when comparing schools to each other. I applied to 21 universities, including Georgetown, Columbia, Duke, UF, UM, FSU, Boston University, USC, Boston College, NC State, NYU, George Washington, Brown, American University, Stony Brook University, and more. Not only did I receive acceptance letters from every school, but I also received scholarships from every school. I decided to attend Georgetown University because they offered me the most enticing scholarship and their values aligned with my own. After going through the process myself and being extremely familiar with the Common App and individual school applications, I helped numerous students younger than me with their college application process because I believe that is an extremely crucial process and every child deserves to know the ins and outs of the process. I believe that I was very fortunate to have an incredible college counseling office at my high school, but I also recognize that other students around the nation are not afforded that privilege and are therefore unaware of little, but important things that can make or break a college application. I provide assistance and advice with resume reviews, and college essays. After attending Georgetown, and having friends from many other universities, I make it a point to share my experience with younger students so they can have some more insight in what makes universities different from one another. Of the many students I have helped, they have been accepted to universities such as NYU Tisch, UM, UF, UCLA, USC, Boston University, Georgetown, George Washington, and UM. As a first generation college student, I understand the challenge of applying to college and understanding the FAFSA, and I hope to help facilitate the college application process by serving as a great mentor to other students.
