As a high school government teacher, I have taught this subject to seniors for more than 25 years. The course covers Foundations of American Government, Principles of American Government, The Constitution, Federalism, The three branches of government, foreign policy as well as the duties and responsibilities of American Citizens, and citizenship. The amendments to the US Constitution are covered in detail and compared to how they apply to current situations. The unit includes due process and rights of accused persons, the criminal justice system and the law.
Social Studies includes all of the social sciences. I have taught American History, World History, World Geography, Multicultural Studies, Current Events, African American History, American Government to seniors, Civics to 7th graders and 9th graders and World Geography.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in History and Social Studies, which means that I am qualified to teach American History, World History, Civics and US Government, World Geography, Psychology. The list includes subjects that I have taught over the past 38 years as a high school educator. In tutoring, I can prepare students study for tests, prepare the End of Course test and help them with DBQ's. The State of North Carolina has placed an emphasis on reading and writing skills. I have planned an implemented various lessons on Document Based Questions (DBQ's). These activities help to increase students' abilities to read primary and secondary sources for understanding.
