College professor: I have been teaching ESL to adults since 1991 in this country and internationally. Most recently, I've taught ESL for Arizona State University and for Thunderbird Graduate School of Global Management (top-ranked international business school). In addition, I've taught for Rio Salado College in Arizona and for City Colleges of Chicago. My students have been from countries all around the world--China, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Peru, Italy, Burundi, Morocco, Nigeria, and more. In our lessons, I use a communicative approach, based on natural speech but with a grammar and vocabulary focus, as well. My own accent is neutral Midwest American. With a graduate degree in Journalism, I can help you with your writing, as well.
The TOEFL exam was required of all our incoming international students at the university where I have been teaching English. Our program is focused on improving students' scores in order to meet the required standard. So, as faculty, our lessons are designed to give students practice in the 4 areas tested in TOEFL: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. In addition, I have personally taken the most current TOEFL practice tests.
