I have been teaching American history for over a dozen years, with a specialization in AP US History. I have taken two week-long workshops delivered by course leaders from the College Board, one of whom was instrumental in reforming the exam format for the AP history courses. I have spent well over two hundred hours coaching students in writing LEQ and DBQ essays.

Over the past 12 years, I have been teaching high school social studies full time. I taught first at a Quaker school in the US, then for the past nine years an international school. During that time I have taught a variety of courses, including United States history, Western Civilization (1400 to present), World history. Earlier, while teaching middle school, most of my work was in social studies. My apprenticeship was also mostly in social studies. Lastly: My undergraduate degree was chiefly in the social studies arena, with psychology, archaeology, anthropology, and history.
