Tutor of English, Reading, and Writing

I teach with an excellent language curriculum called Logic of English Foundations, which is a comprehensive and fun phonics, spelling, reading, and handwriting program effective at teaching children of all different learning styles, including those with dyslexia. I have tutored children through sixth grade to improve their reading skills through phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension exercises. The Logic of English Foundations curriculum I currently use for K-second grade includes plenty of fun, engaging reading activities. I can adapt these activities for older children with materials that interest them.

I use the Logic of English Foundations curriculum, which is, in part, a phonics program. It focuses on phonemic awareness and teaching sounds with 74 phonograms (letters and combinations of letters). Children who complete the Foundations program generally read at a second grade level or above, depending on vocabulary.

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a Master's degree in nutrition. While I currently am not employed as a nutritionist, I am still passionate about the subject and continue to study and inform others. The summer before my dietetic internship, I worked with WIC as a Nutrition Educator to teach families visiting the farmers market. I was also invited to discuss basic nutrition with elementary and middle school classes as a substitute teacher. I would be happy to teach basic meal planning, grocery shopping, preparation and cooking skills.

I use the Logic of English program, which has a systematic and fun multi-sensory handwriting method (using tactile cards, air writing, playing games to reinforce learned strokes and phonograms). We use cursive, as it is easier while fine motor skills are developing. If necessary, we can work on manuscript instead, as the program demonstrates both systematically.
