Experience teaching students from middle school to college

As a mechanical engineer I have used math for many years. I can also relate it to the student so that they understand the basis of the math problems. When they ask, "Will I ever use this again?" I can give examples of how they will use it. I've helped students go from failing one semester to passing by the end of the year. I've also been able to help students returning to college learn and understand math concepts to the point that they've received A's in college level algebra after being ... [more]

Algebra 1

I've tutored many students at in high school and at local colleges in Math1111 (Algebra 1). Linear functions, quadratic functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and graphing are just some of the topics we cover.

Algebra 2

I've tutored students in algebra 2 and I've helped them gain confidence while helping them understand the subject matter. I've helped students that were failing in the first semester pass for the year.

Calculus is the foundation for many of the mechanical engineering and statistics concepts that I've used throughout my career.

Microsoft Excel

I've used Excel for years to generate data and reports

I've helped students understand the various geometric rules and properties that are important not only for geometry, but are also the building blocks for trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus.

Microsoft Word

As a Mechanical Engineer, physics is something I use almost daily. As a tutor I'm able to explain when to use what equation and how it applies to the real world. I'm able to help students understand and work through the word problems that are part of physics.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have several years experience in math and teaching math concepts to employees, including Prealgebra. My experience helps me break down difficult concepts into concepts that are easy for students to understand.

I've helped students go from failing in the first semester without my help to passing the second semester in Precalculus.

I've helped students breakdown trigonometry questions to the basics and helped them understand how to solve problems and understand the real life applications.

I am an ASQ-certified six sigma green belt and black belt with several years experience using and training in statistical process control, Z scores, normal distributions, regressions, t tests, binomial distributions, Poisson distributions, and more.

SAT Math

ACT Math

I've helped students understand the keys needed to solve ACT math problems quickly and efficiently.

Elementary Math

Microsoft Access

I've used MS Access for many years and have developed my own custom databases with it. I've also used an ODBC connection to link with SQL databases to pull information from other sources. In addition, I've used AccessVB to write code that performs custom features that are not easily done with macros or query builder.

Mechanical Engineering

I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla, now Missouri Science and Technology. My emphasis was in manufacturing engineering and I have worked in numerous industries as a manufacturing engineer, quality engineer, quality manager, and production manager. I have many years experience in fixture design, gauge design, and process development and improvement.

I am a mechanical engineer that uses Solidworks on a daily basis for the last 4 years. I use it to create my own models and layouts, from everything to small models to building layouts. I am self taught and know some of the difficulties people run into when learning Solidworks.
