Wildlife Biologist/Biology, Enviro Studies, Chem, Algebra teacher

I'm a dedicated, passionate teacher and motivational speaker who knows how to connect with struggling students. As a member of the 1981 San Francisco 49er's Super Bowl championship team, I developed hydrocephalus (water on the brain), and survived 3 emergency VP Shunt brain surgeries in 8 months at age 23. In 1986, I returned to school to complete my Biology degree and survived 5 additional brain surgeries and several gran mal seizures during an 8 month period, while enrolled in Bio Chem, Or... Biology

Wildlife Biologist since 1990 with extensive, hands on experience studying a number of special status species (aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates, fish, amphibians and reptiles, birds, bats, and mammal studies), in CA and OR. I also taught Biology and Environmental Studies in high school for 2 years, tutored student athletes for 3 years, and owned an Environmental Consulting firm, Visger & Associates, since 2003.

Ecology

As a wildlife biologist for many years, I'm an expert on ecology; i.e., interactions of various living organisms with their environment. I taught Environmental Studies for two years, and was also the Lands Manager for the largest mitigation banking company on the west coast for five years, where I helped design, construct and managed thousands of acres of created habitats (Wetlands, vernal pools, oak woodlands, upland habitats, etc.).

Elementary Science

Zoology

I've been a fisheries and wildlife biologist since 1990 conducting hands on protocol fisheries and wildlife studies and habitat mapping throughout California and Oregon for years. My original emphasis in college was 4 years of Fisheries studies, and I've been involved in a number of electro-shock stream surveys and IFIM studies. When I completed my BS several years later, I had completed 172 units and graduated with a degree in Biological Conservation. I have extensive experience with special status aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates such as vernal pool fairy shrimp and valley elderberry longhorn beetle, special status amphibian species such as spade foot toad, pit tagging studies of California tiger salamander and red-legged frog, special status avian species such as southwest willow flycatcher, northern and California spotted owl and burrowing owl, bird banding studies of barn owl, kestrel and wood duck, and special status mammal species such as Giant kangaroo rat, San Joaquin kit fox and dusky footed wood rat. I also taught Biology, Environmental Studies and Chemistry at the high school level for 2 years.

Botany

As a wildlife biologist for 15 years I conducted numerous habitat assessments and vegetation surveys. I also TA'd Natural History of Plants in College, and constructed and managed wetland mitigation banks whose success was dependent on my vegetation surveys each year.
